It was Easter Sunday morning, March 31, 1991 (it was also what would have been the 111th birthday of my maternal Grandfather from Ireland, Henry Waldron), and I was running rather hard up the Harlem Hill of Central Park in Manhattan (in training for the NYC Marathon of November 3, 1991), when magically through my earplugs came, Enlightenment by Van “the man” Morrison. Instantly, I felt the beauty in everything, as if I was in heaven, or seeing through God’s eyes. It was one of the most transforming moments of my life. Thank you, and bless you, Van Morrison, for Enlightenment, and the sixty years of the most beautiful music you have bestowed upon us.

This is my favorite album by the Chairman of the Board / Ol’ Blue Eyes. Nice ‘n’ Easy is the eighteenth studio album by Frank Sinatra, released on July 25, 1960. All the songs, with the notable exception of the title song, are sung as ballads and were arranged and conducted by Nelson Riddle. The title song was a last-minute substitute for the originally planned “The Nearness of You,” which did not appear on the original LP. The album spent nine weeks at number one on the Billboard stereo album chart, and one week at number one on the corresponding mono album chart. At the 1960 Grammy Awards, Nice ‘n’ Easy was nominated for the Grammy Award as Album of the Year, Best Male Vocal Performance, and Best Arrangement.
