Catholic Journalist Killed By Israeli Military by Michael Hoffman

Shireen Abu Akleh (sometimes spelled Aqleh) was assassinated by an Israeli sniper in Jenin this week (according to Palestinian eyewitnesses). The Israeli government, as they almost always do when caught red-handed murdering Palestinians, are blaming the Palestinians for her death. Israeli witness testimony cannot be impeached. To do so is “anti-Semitic.” However, it is deemed perfectly permissible, even warranted, for Palestinian eyewitness testimony to be discounted. We believe the Palestinians. The media are not generally reporting that Shireen was a Catholic born in Jerusalem. The right-wing Neocon tall-tale sold to gullible ignoramuses at Dispensationalist Protestant churches, is that Muslims despise Catholics.
ou won’t read too many headlines like ours naming this murdered reporter as a Catholic. Your favorite Right wing media fear the wake-up call such a headline would trigger — the awareness that a majority of Muslims in Palestine are allied with Christians of good will. How do they define good will? Being fair — not turning a blood eye to the relentless theft of Palestinian land and the dispossession and mass murder of the people of Palestine. Light a candle to the memory of Shireen Abu Akleh who knew she was targeted for death and reported anyway. May we all possess her courage in the cause of what is right and true.

  1. Yeah well the Jews were in Israel before the pagan Romans even invented Catholicism yet tbe Catholics claim they had hqve the right to own it. and had no problems with Crusading and murdering raping plundering the Jews and Moslems for CENTURIES and still forme t all manner of seditious disingenuous deceitful plots to destabilise both the Jews and Moslem worlds
Remeber the Redemption ists? They used saunas to literally cook Jews in and by paying wet towels to their skulls and around their torsos to protect their heart lungs and brains could slowly actually cook their toes hands feet and limbs whilst claiming they were doung it from a place of love and compassion as they converted them to the true church and saved them from their errant beliefs. They could cook them for days. Not everyone forgets the history.

  2. This incident has been widely and uncritically reported in the media, but just possibly it is fake news. At least consider another view, from Melanie Phillips on Substack (13 May 2022):
A Palestinian Arab journalist with Al Jazeera, Shireen Abu Akleh, was shot dead this week in a firefight between Hamas and the Israelis in the West Bank city of Jenin. Western news outlets initially reported uncritically the Hamas claim that the Israelis had shot her, eagerly regurgitating Al Jazeera’s assertion that the Israelis had “assassinated” her “in cold blood”. When the Israelis said Abu Akleh might have been killed instead by Palestinian gunfire, journalists grudgingly incorporated this into their reporting while continuing to repeat extensively the incendiary but unsupported Palestinian accusation.

At this point, we still don’t know who killed Abu Akleh. But any fair-minded person would say the Israelis are more likely to be telling the truth. They said that, having gone into Jenin to root out terrorists responsible for a recent wave of murderous attacks, their forces had come under “substantial fire”. After studying what evidence they had, it looked as if Abu Akleh had been felled by a Palestinian bullet.

This was because, in a video from the scene, Arabs are heard shouting: “We hit a soldier; he is lying on the ground.” Since no Israeli soldier had been hurt, however, the suspicion was that this was Abu Akleh.

Moreover, Honest Reporting’s translated commentary on this video contains another crucial line. After the shouts about a soldier on the ground, there’s a further shout: “It’s a woman.”

Hamas, which immediately removed her body, rejected Israel’s suggestion of a joint investigation to establish who did kill her and are refusing to hand over the bullet they removed from her body while insisting that the Israelis fired the fatal shot.

By contrast, the Israelis have made no assertions they can’t back up. They have pointed out the obvious fact that the truth can’t be established unless Hamas operatives bring forward relevant evidence. The fact that they are refusing to co-operate suggests that they have something to hide.

    1. This incident has been widely and uncritically reported in the media. Sure it has. When I found out about this assassination, I did a quick search and seven or eight of the top links went to apologists for the IDF. The MSM covered it alright, they tried their best to cover it up. Mark

    2. US Mainstream Media Lets Israel Manipulate Reports On Killing Of Journalist Shireen Abu Akleh
Israel continues its time-honored strategy of manipulating the mainstream U.S. media — this time muddying the coverage of the assassination of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. Since 2000, 50 Palestinian journalists have been killed, and the world doesn’t know the names of any of them.
The mainstream U.S. media coverage of the killing of the prominent Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in occupied Palestine could have been worse.
The New York Times and the others could have just ignored the fact that she was shot in the head while reporting, almost certainly by the Israeli military. In a powerful interview, this site’s Yumna Patel explains that since 2000, 50 Palestinian journalists have been killed, and the world doesn’t know the names of any of them. And the Times, to its credit, did add a brief profile of Shireen to its main report, explaining that she was well-known in Palestine and across the Arab world for her years of reporting for the Al-Jazeera network.
Meanwhile, nearly all of the thousands of Palestinians who the Israeli occupation kills in Gaza and the West Bank remain nameless.
But otherwise the mainstream media fell for the Israeli government’s longtime strategy: react immediately to bad news by putting out false or unproven statements, knowing that the Americans will take the bait with a “both-sides say — who knows what’s true?” story.
